What can I do to get a CNA position in ER or ICU?

This may be the wrong place to ask this, so if it is someone please point me in the right direction.
Right now I am doing my CNA training. My instructor has said that next week (last week of training) we will start interviewing with nurses from the various floors/areas to see if we can get a position there.
I'd love, love, love to get a position in the ER/ICU. Most hospitals seem to require several months of experience, but since I am training within the hospital, the instructor said fresh CNA's could be possibly be accepted.
While I'm not competitive by nature, several other students have voiced a desire to work in the ICU or ER, and I want that position. Long-term care o anything other area would be fine to start off in, but my father is a former ER nurse and he said it was the best nursing experience he's ever had.
So my question to you is... What can I do to hopefully secure myself the position? For one I'm a male, which even though it seems unfair, I think that might help.
