Vasopressin = Desmopressin?

In our hospital we don`t use vasopressin for septic shock, CPR... It`s our near future I think but now we don`t have any expirience with vasopressin. But we use desmopressin for patients with diabetes insipidus.

I have a few questions.

First, vasopressin = desmopressin? True or false?

If answer is true....our desmo is 4 microgram / ml in one iv. dose. I see on this pages that vaso iv. dose is unit / ml. Does anyone have expirience with desmopressin for septic shock treatment? And what is recommanded dose for desmo in septic shock and CPR ( dose in micrograms / ml not in units / ml )?
Thanks! ( I hope this isn`t question. )

I try it in english ..

Desmopressin is a Vasopressin-derivative with a potency-effect of more than 100.
That means, that Desmopressin has a 100 times higher effect than Vasopressin.

units are the only measurement of Vasopressin - or do you give Insulin in mg ?

Greetings

Dirk

Danke Dirk!

But do you know something else about desmopressin? For example, dose in septic shock treatment etc. As I said before, we use desmopressin only for diabetes insipidus treatment. We haven`t any other expirience with desmopressin for septic shock, CPR...

Hello Treboricunurse!

I only know Desmopressin as a med, which we use to treat the insipidus too. It is, in comparison to vasopressin , only changed a little bit (it has a little different chemical formula).
So the med is used ONLY for treatment of insipidus, or blood-clotting by activation of the factor VIII.
I have never heard about using Desmopression for CPR.
Vasopressin is here used very rarely. In germany, vasopression is not allowed to use while CPR (meds have to be registered for a special indication. CPR is not included in the list of indications). In switzerland, we havenīt vasopressin at all.

Greetings
Dirk

... one new aspect :

The potency-effct is only for the anti-diuretic-effect.
The vasoconstriction is only 0,39 of vasopressin. So the use of desmopressin will take a very low effect while CPR.

Hope this will help you ....

Dirk
