Part-time ICU

I'm thinking of nurse anesthesia as a possible career once I get my BSN. However, I would like to take some extra math and science courses before applying to a program. I don't know if I can work part-time and be successful in school. I need ICU experience but I would like to work it part-time. Is this possible?

Working PT in ICU - I am rostered on as FT in a 25 bed ICU dept. where I know of 2 staff who are scheduled on PT basis.

My personal opinion is that it is difficult to work PT in ICU unless it is a unit you have been FT in for at least a year. Its difficult to keep your momentum up due to not used to being there and also you just forget the little things that slow you up.

As for anesthesia school, I believe they would find more impressive is at least one year ICU FULL-TIME. One solid year. I would do ICU full time for at least a year then maybe go PT and take classes*as* you apply to schools...
