Oh. My. God. (lol!!!!)

This was a first for me.

One of my coworkers called me in to help her start an IV on a 22 year old ear avulsion (ATV accident) who supposedly doesn't have a closed head injury, yet can't manage to keep from acting like a crazy man. The family was... uh... the sort that needs LOTSO education on... everything.

Anyway, we're in there with his father and brother, he's thrashing all over the bed and grunting and moaning, I've got an 18g hanging out of his left arm while trying to thread it then HL it, and I hear his dad say, "Do they itch, Big Dog? Don't worry, I'll scratch 'em." He then proceeds to scratch his son's scrotum for him. I don't mean a quick rub either... he got all down and dirty, just clawing at this dude's privates.

I looked at my coworker and she could barely contain herself, lol... we finished up the IV on "Big Dog" and walked out, and she told me, "He's been scratching his son's nuts all day long."

I about peed my pants laughing... LOL!!!

It was a scrotum kinda day actually... I had a patient with Fournier's gangrene of the scrotum who told me his trouble all started "when a damn squirrel bit me in the balls"... of course he also told me, when asked if he knew where he was, that we were "under the sea"...

It was quite an interesting shift, lol!!

OH MY GOD, Now I have heard it all!!! Sounds a bit incestuous eh?
I had a guy with Fournier's who lost his penis. Not a pretty picture.

Just reinforces the fact that I don't want to end up being an ICU patient...ever. Who knows what my family would do to me.

Just last week I noticed my 18 y/o scratching. I said "have issues?". He said yeah a "couple"....How old do I have to be before they quit itching? I said you'll have to ask your Dad that one!
