Need a good ICU book

Hi! I will be starting as a new ICU nurse the beginning of May. I have come from a Transitional ICU but we did not get Swans, alot of drips and CVVH....I was wondering about a good ICU book -- nursing or whatever.
oh, and any other advice for me!
thanks,
Erin

When I started in the SICU as a new grad, I found Critical Care Nursing Secrets and the AACN Handbook of Critical Care Nursing and to be of tremendous help. Do not confuse this with the Clinical Reference also published by the AACN. After you feel pretty comfortable with these, you may want to check out The ICU book by Marino and the AACN Clincal Reference. Best of luck.

Mark's site is excellent. I would recommend as a reference book that you can carry to work with you Fast Facts for Adult Critical Care by Kathy White. It's available at www.kathywhite.com . For a larger reference text, I'd suggest Thelan's Critical Care Nursing, Diagnosis and Management by Urden, et al. ISBN 0-323-01461-5.

For Hemodynamics, theres a great little handbook out there called, Handbook of Hemodynamic Monitoring by Gloria Darovic.

Good luck!

I work in a surgical ICU with many cardiothoracic patients. I would highly recommend "Fast Facts for Adult Critical Care". You can call and order from Kathy White Learning Systems @ 1 800 940-0895 or online @ www.kathywhite.com. This is an awesome pocket size handbook that I use daily for quick reference. You'll find it invaluable!! Good Luck.

I also really like the fast facts book, and I've found it very useful. It's nice too because its a little three ring binder setup, so you can add pages of your own notes too.

Ok, this is the best website ever! (except obviously allnurses.com). Mark, I just read all 37 pages of "Bedside Emergencies" and got some great explanations of stuff I didn't really understand from school. You and your wife did an excellent job!

New Graduate Getting Ready to work in the ICU

I am a new graduate that has accepted a position in the ICU. I start in September. I am looking for really good magazine that I can order that are specific for the ICU Nurse. Does anyone know of any intensive care magazines or critical care magazines that would be good to order? I look forward to your responses.
Thanks ahead of time.
Evelyn

If you subscrube to the AACN, you automatically get a subscription to Critical Care Nurse, which is a good one. Go to aacn.org.
