Have any of you had a pt. on a Ketamine gtt? I had one some months ago and I am going to do a presentation with one of our Pharm D's on the nurses role/understanding of the pt. with chronic pain on high doses of pain meds. The pt. in question was on high doses of methadone, xanax, ativan, dilaudid, and a cont. ketamine gtt. The pt came from the community with this tolerance secondary to chronic pain rt an autoimmune issue. Do you feel you had trouble balancing value judgements and med orders? What were your impressions of the pt and pt families? Concerns? I want to give a good picture of some of the concerns nursing has more globally in addition to my personal experience and perceptions. (All I could think was...omg she is still breathing...lol)
