I'm a nursing student--you probably remember all the crazy homework we get!
My assignment is to ask a couple staff nurses and nurse managers this question: "What are the two most important roles that a nurse manager must fulfill?" Then I am to compare what the staff vs mgr says.
So I'm just wondering if anybody would be willing to participate. The reason I am posting here is that I have been hired to a MICU, which I will start after graduation.
As a staff nurse, I think that the two most important jobs of a nurse manager are:
Hiring and retaining staff members who are willing to learn, compentant and work together as a team
Facilitating communication between their unit and the manager abover them. An effective nurse manager helps everyone involved get what they need without compromising the needs of others.
