ETT tube holders and tape changes

We are experiencing some difficulties with tape burns and reactions with the manufactured tube holders (Dale) we are currently using. I'd be grateful if anyone out there is having difficulty could let me know. Also how often do you routinely change them and what necessitates a tape change. Thanks

The last unit I worked in changed tape every day. They did not use holders.

The unit I work on now uses holders though I dont know the brand off the top of my head. Every day we move the tube from one side of the mouth to the other. The same should be done with tape. This prevent mouth sores and tissue necrosis. Ive seen what pt looks like after lip debridement.

Dont be afraid to take the holder off with another RN or RT holding the tube, and clean your pts face. Shave them also. Of course they should be sedated or compliant to do this-

Tape Changes

The RTs do tape changes every day. While they are changing the tape, they also change move the ETT to the opposite side of the mouth. PRN tape changes are done if soiled or if another situation arises requiring it to be changed. Some nurses try to be in the room so that they can shave the patient.
