Question CCRN advice Need

been an icu nurse for about a year. A co-worker told about tapes from nancy townsend but I think they are a bit pricey... money a bit tight now... well anyway has anyone heard of her. I will try to make the sacrifice? would also appreciated anything that would be helpful for me to do well in this test ....expecially if it is cost effective.

I don't know Nancy Townsend but I highly recommend the tapes/CDs by Laura Gasparis-Vonfrolio. Informative and fun, I listened to them *constantly* before taking, and passing, the CCRN.

Re: CCRN advice Need

I used David Woodruff's CDs and Pass CCRN book to study for my CCRN.

Re: CCRN advice Need

I took it last June and missed by 10 questions. I'm going to try again later this year. The first time I went to Laura Gasparis"s 2 day review class (very infomative and entertaining). I watched her DVD religously. I also bought the Pass CCRN book which was very dull and overwhelming. I am going to a 2day reivew that our local AACN chapter is sponsoring in May. This time I'll be more prepared.

I should have stated earlier about the PASS CCRN book.....toss the book and use the CD that comes with it to help study and to judge your performance. The book is a nice reference but it really doesn't help prepare you for the test like the CD does.

I would go with Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio! I've seen her live and also have her CCRN review books and video tapes!!! I've been studying her material extensively for the last 8 months!

I'm taking my CCRN this Tuesday March 28th! Wish me luck! I'm really nervous and so hope to be able to add CCRN after my name!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with the above people who said to toss the Pass CCRN book and keep the CD. The CD has excellent questions for preparing for the exam!

I have the PASS CCRN book too and it is certainly overwhelming. So much information! It is definitely good information but quite daunting. I, too, used the CD for answering questions and found it to be very helpful.

Re: CCRN advice Need

I bought Laura Gasparis VonFrolio's Video tapes, watched each of them at least 10 times. they were funny and full of information. also I bought her
review questions. They were great resources, especially the rationales. the thing i liked about Laura's tapes is that she is geared towards test taking strategies specific to this test. I bought the audio taped CCRN review from NTI, also. I studied off and on for 18 months, applied much of what she taught to daily patient care and thought things through while at work. I didn't have any trouble passing the test (thank God!) I could only afford to take it once and needed to pass it.
Getting CCRN is a great accomplishment. Good Luck!

Re: CCRN advice Need

I took the med-ed two day class and used their CD's as well which I thought were better than Laura Gasparis. I agree, toss the CCRN book and use the test CD. Bookmark what questions you miss and study those. You can do just a few questions at a time so the study sessions were much less painful. It was a effective technique for me, I passed the exam last summer.
