? about gtt's with carrriers?

It's been a while since I've actually been on here but always remembered that this is a great place for information. So my question is about drips running at say 5ml/hr or less. Usually I would run another 5ml/hr ns carrier to help "push" along the main drug(s). Recently a new physician started requesting that we not use NS carriers with drips with his pt's. So my question is how effective is a gtt running at 5 or less cc/hr.

I still do it. Does your hospital have a policy on this? If it's a volume issue for him, then perhaps you can double strength some things, but I still want a mininum volume going through my IV (and if it's a PICC then he has no choice)

I can't imagine a Dr having a problem with 5 extra cc's a hour...I mean, is he going to ask to not have CVPs or Alines infusing either? Is he going to ask you to restrict flushing on your lines?

I only use a carrier when it's a PICC line. If I have a central line... I have no need for the carrier.
