four years ago i fell at work and after being seen by workman's comp md i was returned to work on light duty.i have worked for the last four years with these limitations and have always done my job (never once was i ever told there was a problem with my nursing care)last week i was notified to attend a meeting to "consider my termination" due to "my continuing inability to perform my duties" .two hours after the meeting a letter from the city health dept(my employer)was stuck in my door stating that i was being "medically terminated".i am still in a state of shock over this. i am 59 and suddenly i have no income, no insurance and not many job prospects. i have been very active in our union and have met with city officials many times to advocate for our nurses.i can't help but think that there is politics and egos involved in this. is anybody else out there going thru something like this? any recourse?

Without knowing which state you work in, it is kind of difficult to comment. Most state's do not allow for termination when you are out on comp but it is a different story when you return to work. What does your union say? I would assume that you have some protection under your union contract. You need to meet with your union representative as soon as possible. I would still report into work, even if you have been terminated, to cover yourself, until otherwise advised by your union. Also call your state bar association. Ask for the names of three attornies who specialise in labor law and employees rights. One of them will see you for an hour, for a donation to the bar association.

Can your union do anything for you? This sounds pretty outrageous to me.

sounds like retaliation for union activity to me contact your union rep immediately and file a grievance for termination w/o just cause. Good luck
