Wondering if my back surgery will keep me from nursing

Hi everyone!! I am currently in college and considering becoming a nurse. There is one thing that is stopping me, and I was hoping to get some advice on whether I would be able to pursue nursing.
While in middle/high school, I had spinal fusions. I was diagnosed with spondylolisthesis, and the bottom four of my vertebra were slipped 60 percent. While in high school I was fine, and didn't really have any issues. Now I'm always sore and have trouble lifting. I was wondering if this would keep me from being a nurse.
I know there are many different specialties, so if anyone knows what kind of specialty that would be good for someone my position I would love to hear about it!
Thanks in advanced!

Re: Wondering if my back surgery will keep me from nursing

Now you are aware that allnurses.com isn't able to give any medical information. Nursing is had work and you do have to be able to demonstrate certain body mechanics, such as staying on your feet for a long time, lifting, bending at the waist, turning patients, siitting to use the computer. What job do you do now? Even in specialties that don't require the above, those come after nursing school and are quite competitive when it comes to hiring.

What does your doctor say? That would be my first thing to check. It may be a matter of say posture that needs a little balancing. Good luck though.

As I said we can't give medical advice so I have to close your thread, but keep in mind what I wrote OK? And let us know what the doctor said.
