I broke my neck several years ago and hurt my back badly, assisting a 500#+ patient getting out of bed- she was mentally ill, and abusive. I know I will never work full time again- besides the fx, I have other severe back problems. If I can become sturdy enough to work a limited amount, will a hospital just pass me over because I had a work comp claim? I am on SSDI now. I talked to my lawyer, who said it would probably be a 10% chance or less, that a hospital would ever hire me. If so, would thay apply to other medical jobs- clinics, dr office? I will have to do a sedate job- I hope I will be able ro do so. I will be moving to San Antonio/Austin Texas area. Thanks for your comment.

I have been hired after a workers comp case. I followed the MD orders from the facility and then I resigned. I took a month off and then was hired at another facility. I did let them know about the previous workers comp issue--they can track that anyway when they do a backround check.

There should be some sort of a legality issue if a company will not hire do to a workers comp isssue. If you are not able to perform the job then you would be considered a liability and I could see why they may not want to hire--but if you are able to fulfill the duties you should be fine.

Have you ever looked into case management or anything other than bedside nursing??

Chica- I thought there was a question on an application that asked if you ever had filed Work Comp? Maybe not all facilities ask, but as you say, they might be able to check?? If they ask if I have any limitations, I would have to say 'yes', and they are pretty stringant. Yes, I have thought about case review, but where I worked before, you had to have a BSN, and I have a ADA. Is an ADA allowed to do cases where you are? Thanks so much for replying.

Quite honestly I am not sure about the BSN and case management. I know we had a case manager that was a former teacher and I am not sure if she has a Bachelors or not. She wasn't a nurse.

And yes there is a section that they ask if you have had a workers comp case in the past x amount of years and months. Just answer honestly because i know they can run a check.

I asked to look at my file for something approx 2 years after employment and i saw where they ran the check and had the stats on the workers comp case--so that is how i know that do a check on employees. I already made them aware of it,but i was quite surprised to see how extensive backround checks can be on employees.I think that is a good thing. Just be honest.
