I'm in endstage COPD where hypoxia and bleeding occur. I also have Pulmonary arterial hypertension, and severe OA with osteopenia in the cervical and the lumbar spine.
I live in an assisted living facility, but I'm now sorry I moved here. I should have kept my apartment, because we now have a person over us who is a literal monster on a power trip. She's a bit afraid of me so far, and I want it to stay that way.
My concern however is that . There are only 2 residents here. Me, and another lady with parkinsons disease, who is still functional.
She went to transport her home (a part of her job)and she told the lady she needs to be in a nursing home. She even took some of her crafts away from her.

She used to have a store where she made and sold her crafts, but now she only has a few left. That person won't even allow her to work on her crafts now; the thing she loves. I feel so bad for her, and I stick up for her whenever I can.

I contacted my daughter who knows the president of this organization, and asked her to contact him and let him know my concerns, and what goes on here behind his and the rest of the council's backs. I told the president on her once, and I told the founder of this place about how she managed to force every older employee to quit.

You should see how run down the upstairs where we live has gotten. Nobody wants to empty my commode. I have to ask them to empty it before they'll do it; a job that's supposed to be done at the end of every shift. That thing has made my room and the stairway stink. Our rooms are rarely ever cleaned, and I just hope an inspector comes around soon and does an inspection.

I don't think that woman will be very happy.

If she thinks she can get away with it, she lies to our physicians too. But mine will believe me over her. I'm soo blessed that way. But the other lady isn't as fortunate. She has no home or family support, and that woman did tell her doctor she thinks the other lady is ready for a nursing home

She's rarely here when she's supposed to be to supervise the staff from time to time to make sure all the tasks are being done.
She told the lady with parkinsons not to bother her today because there's a big football game here between Penn State and Notre Dame.

We both feel like numbers here and are both unhappy. I told Laurel if she threatens to put me in a nursing home, I'll refuse tp take my meds. I honestly don't think it's going to go that far.

I also asked Laurel to look for an efficiency for me. I know I can still live alone. My grandmother did when she was blind.

I am truly concerned about this. Any suggestions?

Is your assisted living facility in a home? I lived in a retirement center for eight months before moving on. I lived in the independent side but I had options with the state of Florida that I could take if I felt I was being treated unfairly. Most states have Office for Elderly Affairs. Try contacting your local county office.

Nothing yet. But then she's very busy with her own family too, and I know that takes a lot of time.

Thanks Woody, I'll look into it. DPW is threatening to shut this place down by the end of October in a steel fire escape isn't erected by then.

What part of PA do you live in, if you don't mind me asking? I use to drive over I84 to I81 and go down it, on a regular bases in the 70's and 80's and 2000 to 2003. I use to spend two weekends a month over in Scranton, at a friend's parents home in Tyler. We would go dancing in Scranton or down the line to Wilkes Barre. Aaahhh those were the days.

My younger sister lives just off exit 42 on I-81. It's the Nuangola exit, but her snail mail address is Mountaintop. My bil has a business in Wilkes-Barre. I know Scranton and Wilkes-Barre very well. In fact, I used to go to church in Mount Pocono.
But I live in Central PA. It's name is State College, the home of the original Penn State campus. And it's so central, I live in Centre County.
I'm originally from New York State though, in the New York City watershed area. It's located in the upper Hudson Valley area, in the Catskill mountains.
I moved here in 1996, got my nursing license just a little over a year later, and the rest is history, except for my writing a book that's currently being used at our local Womens Resource Center.

I know the mountaintop area fairly well, having driven over it numerous times. Funny, I was born in Troy and my parents purchased a house, in Schenectady, back in 1968. My daughter was born at St. Clares. On my mother's side, our family goes back to the early 1700's. They came from Ireland, via Holland, and got a rather large land grant from Holland. Unfortunately, all that remains is a small step stone from one of the early homes some of them built.

I suffer from asthma but my attacks are mostly triggered by allergens, mostly cat dander. But it can be triggered by a sudden drop in temperature and then a rise, then another drop. Then I end up in the ER. I have to stay away from kitties. And they seem to love me.

I've been disabled since November 29, 1988. I was injured on the job then suffered major injures driving back from a doctor's appointment. I've tried to return to school but blood clotts got in the way.
