Any legal beagles out there...question about a contract

Hi. When I accepted my current job, I HAD to sign a contract for 2 years...if I leave I have to pay them to find my replacement and can't work within a certain number of miles around the facility. I've heard several things...this is enforceable so you can't leave and what are you crazy..they can't make you stay. Does anyone have any experience with contracts?
