However...

Considering the variety of cases that you have reviewed, would some of you LNC's mind describing several case scenarios that you have worked?

What I'm wanting to know basically is what type of cases do attorneys/firms typically want LNCs to review? Only cases where a nurse is being accused of negligence/neglect? Or multiple cases where the client's case has a medical aspect that they need put in more simple terms? Have you reviewed cases where physicians are being sued? Hospitals? Employers? I'm curious as to how broad a medical-legal caseload LNCs review.

I do not advise anyone giving real scenarios regarding previous case work. All work done as consultants and/or expert witnessess should remain off these boards basically to protect our identites and prevent family members, attorneys, and fellow colleagues who lurk here, from identifying you and/or the individuals involved in these scenarios.

Types of cases that I've been contracted to work:

• Medical and nursing malpractice
• General nursing negligence
• Personal Injury
• Worker's Compensation
• Nursing Home Litigation (including elder abuse, medicaid/medicare fraud and abuse)
• Products Liability
• Toxic Tort

Gotcha. I didn't want real scenarios, but I guess example(s) scenarios of what types of cases LNCs review. Pretend/hypothetical even, just to know the level of care. Thanks for the list -- that helps answer my question!

What I listed above are types of cases.

Not sure what you are asking, "scenarios....to know the level of care".....?? Could you elaborate? Are you wanting to know the SOC/SOP that was applied to a case? As for describing scenarios:

Pt. A, surgery=hysterectomy
Physician B, employed blunt/sharp dissection=vesicovaginal fistula
Pt. A, s/s VVfistula=delay in dx
Physician B, delay in dx=delay in tx

Few examples of Types of Cases with subtypes:

• Delay of Diagnosis
• Delay in Treatment
• Negligent Case Management

Personal Injury/General Negligence

• Premises Liability
• Sexual and Physical Assault
• Motor Vehicle Accidents
• Liquor Liability
• Sports Injuries
• Babysitter Negligence

Nursing Home Litigation

• Bedsores (decubitus ulcers) and other related infections
• Inadequate staffing and training
• Falls and associated injuries
• Inappropriate use of restraints (chemical/physical)

An LNC can review ANY case that has ANY medical component. Healthcare and medical records come up in all types of cases from criminal court cases to civil cases regarding wills/probate/guardianship, healthcare business deals, etc., to the "standard" types that sirI has listed. It is possible to work on cases that range through the entire spectrum of cases that our legal system allows to be filed in the courts. Granted, most cases settle first but any case that can be filed in court is fair game for needing an LNC to review records.
