My goal is to eventually become a LNC. I have 1 1/2 yrs experience, a little over a year of that has been in Cardio. I want to take the best path to becoming a LNC, but I'm not sure which it is.

I've been torn between going to the OR in a couple of months, or staying in Cardio for another year & then advance into CCU.

I am leaning towards the OR but I don't want to make a mistake by going there. I've always liked the OR whenever I've gone there & the longer I'm on a floor, the more I realize it is not what I want. The thought of staying on the floor for another year is not very appealing to me but I'll do whatever I have to to achieve my final goal of becoming a LNC.

All RN experience (at least 3 - 5 years) is valuable in preparing you for the LNC career. Many LNCs are experts in the OR specialty field. Others, experts in CCU, peds, OB, etc. But, RN experience where you have access to the patient MR and can critique the MR for the SOC applicable to the disciplines involved will be the major key to success as LNC.
