Question Many questions about LNC

I am very interested in becoming a Legal Nurse Consultant. I am awaiting info from the Vickie Milazzo Institute. In the meantime I was wondering if someone could answer some of my questions.
1. Is there a market for LNC in OHIO?

2. About how long it would take to become established?

3. Would it be more benificial to do this as a group of nurses or can one nurse make a realistic go at it by herself?

4. How much of a expense is there to start?

5. Are there any programs available for financial help to get started?

6. After you take the test to get certified how often do you have to renew it?

7. What wage do LNCs start out at?

Thanks for looking at my thread and any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, MICKEYnHANNAHsMOM, and welcome to the Legal Nursing forum.

I will attempt to address your questions.
  1. Yes, there is a market for the legal nurse consultant in all states
  2. Normally, if you are self-employed as LNC, it will take about a year and a half to realize your expectations in the career. If you already have attorneys to whom you can market and get cases, you are way ahead of the game.
  3. An LNC can do this alone. I know some who do marketing together, but are seperate business entities. It is entirely up to you.
  4. Up front expense (after education) will be the business cards, letterhead, litigation software, as well as a few office supplies. That's enough to get you started properly.
  5. You could apply for a small business loan. Others have charged as business expense. Others something like a Sallie Mae loan.
  6. With the Milazzo program, the initial certification is for 2 years. Depending if you get the minimum CEUs, it will be yearly after that. If more, the cert will be extended past the 2 year mark.
  7. Fees are not discussed on the public forum for several legal reasons.
If you have other questions/concerns, just post here or send me a private message.

Good luck with your future plans as an LNC.
