Re: Legal Nurse Consulting and Marketing Ideas

Hello ahoskrn! Welcome to allnurses and to the Legal Nursing forum. So glad you found us.

It is great to hear you are interested in becoming an LNC. You will find lots of valuable information about various LNC programs as well as the career itself on this site. Have you considered any other programs? It seems that you are ready to get started with your LNC education and there are options that would allow you to begin right away.

You have a good background and the personal drive needed to become a successful LNC. It is very possible to market in areas/states other than your own.

Good luck as you begin this new adventure!!

Hello, ahoskrn, and welcome to the site! I am also located on the S.C. / N.C. border! I took the legal consulting program through the Center for Legal Nurse Consulting located in Charlotte. Very good program and offered nationwide. For me personally, it was quite cost effective. You may pm me if you would like to discuss.

I am only working 16 hours a week on a busy Med surge Gyn (with Oncology) floor (my choice) and will devote the other days of the week to my "new career". I have seven years experience and am a "type -A go getter kind of woman" who would love this challenge!!! I work for a large Level 3 trauma teaching hospital and have been exposed to many a "teachable" moment with the residents.I love to scour through the charts and figure things out..this seems like a perfect career to do that and combine the two. My other question is:if I am willing to not be a "stay behind the scenes" girl how realistic is it for me to market other markets and states? I live close to the SC border so NC and SC are close...but can one expect to do this via fax and fedex to other states??? Thank you in advance for any advice. I am most grateful.

P.S. Siri, please pm me with the software info when you get a moment! Thanks!

Hello, ahoskrn, and welcome to allnurses.com

It is great to have you with us.

And, good to read of your plans to be an LNC. So, you are already signed up for the CLNC course for next year? I think you will enjoy the course. It is excellent basic preparation for the career. The 2-day marketing post-course will be very informational as well.

The rest will be up to you!! Marketing is the hardest part of the job, as you probably are already aware. I think the time you have set aside to market and/or develop your business will be fine. You will have to adjust that time schedule as you get busier.

Yes, you may market to attorneys outside your immediate area, even other states. Now, what do you mean, "other markets"?

I utilize snail mail, email, fax, telephone, etc., when working on my cases.

Good luck and check back with us as you can. (I sent you a private message).

Re: Legal Nurse Consulting and Marketing Ideas

I would like to hear from some already practicing LNC's out there. I am in the middle of my own start-up company, and I wondered if others have a malpractice type insurance for consulting? I was advised by one other consultant that I am merely offering an "opinion" and malpractice insurance is not necessary. Please let me hear your opinions. Thanks alot!!

Hello, msparadigm,

Yes, the LNC is wise to get liability insurance.

Here is a link to NSO (I have coverage as NP and LNC):

Red face Re: Legal Nurse Consulting and Marketing Ideas

Hello All,
I am an RN with over 20 years of experience in nursing including hospital med surg, home health, and LTC. Most of my experience is in LTC and I am currently working in risk management for multiple LTC facilities. I review medical records on a daily basis and received my CLNC certification thru Vicki Milazzo's program app. 2 years ago. I really enjoy my work but I want to do some private work. I would appreciate any marketing advice and am very interested in software programs especially working with time lines. Also for those of you who are seasoned entrepenuers, do you think that specializing in a certain area is a good idea, such as geriatrics and LTC?

Hello, **LouisianaRN73 and to allnurses.com

Just read through this thread for marketing tips. Do you have specific questions regarding marketing techniques? If so, please post here.

As for the software programs, please send me a private message and I will be happy to discuss this with you.

As for specializing in certain areas of nursing. Yes, if you wish to do expert testimony, you will be required to be an expert in your field of nursing. For consulting, no, there isn't really a certain field better over another. One requires several years RN experience in order to do the career, however, and you already have that.

Good luck with your business and if you have specific questions/concerns, please post here.

We hope you enjoy allnurses.com

Re: Legal Nurse Consulting

Thanks so much for this information, SirI.

I got my CLNC in December & have been having some difficulty getting myself jumpstarted and organized with putting together a marketing plan. Your post is VERY helpful!

Re: Legal Nurse Consulting and Marketing Ideas

Hello there,

I was reviewing several posts regarding marketing and would love more detailed info via pm, please.

I have a rough draft letter of intro, but that's all so far. I plan on following your posts advice regarding mailings and cold calls, but really need help with the cold call scripting and knowing what questions attorneys may ask. I really need a mentor. I have not taken a course that offers apprenticeship so I have no case studies to add to my portfolio.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks
