How do you praise good health workers?

Sometimes at work , I get outstanding help and see outstanding work from other health workers. We have the option of posting thank you notes on the board. I am concerned because I dont know if that is divisive, and demoralizing to those that do good work, and are also helpfull to me at times. I express my gratitude and praise in private, but sometimes I feel public, for lack of a better word..is in order.

Re: How do you praise good health workers?

No matter if I actually receive anything, a snicker bar, a thank you, or nothing from my employer, I am grateful that there is a National Nurses Week.

I've found every individual nurse has the freedom to choose how to accept that or spit it out of their mouth's. I know why I am a nurse and I think the recognition is most humbling. There are much worse things to complain about.

I've also told fellow co-worker's personally how I felt about their help, their skill. It's humanity. Unfortunetly it should not start and stop with recognition of being a nurse and having a Nurses Week.

I agree with your sentiments.

Wow finally someone responded.. thanks Sharon. I worked for one employer. I never knew for sure what she thought of my work. It was not until I decided to resign, that she praised my work. As I set there, with her telling me all this at the end..I thought to myself, why didnt she tell me this sometime during the 3 years I had worked there for her. I think if she had, I might still be working there.

Gosh, I love to tell people they've done a good job! I think people need to hear it from time to time, even if they know they're a good worker, because sometimes the good ones get used up! I thank them verbally and we also have a system to do a little "starcard" type thing. It is not posted on a public board, but is put in their mailbox. And I ALWAYS give out smiley stickers, even to myself, such as on my calendar for every day I exercise. They look so happy !

Possibly it was because you were helping her with orginizing, getting a pattern going that worked for the two of you. It's unfortunate that she lost you, I'm sure you do good work.

In the future, try to start a discussion at the appropriate time and ask how you're doing. Can I do something better for you, I generally have just blurted out, ok how do you handle this, etc. Or if I can see some disorginization, which isn't uncomon and I have a way to make it better, I suggest it. Dr.'s are thinking alot about all sorts of things medically and most due appreciate a dedicated nurse.

Nurses week was a super week at my facility. We celebrate all nurses and C.N.A.'s during this week. I wanted to really show my staff that they are most valued each and every day of the year. While I do have a small group of staff that unless I gave them a hot new sports cars, they would not be happy.
The rest of the team was very happy with the week. I even had a CNA come to me on Friday and say that she was sorry for the bad things that she said about me behide my back. She thanked me for the hard work that was put into the week. I was very touched becaused she hugged me and I know that she was sorry for the nasty things that she said. I do thank my nursing staff in many different ways. I am trying to find new and different ways to improve. Its just like a marriage, you have to keep trying to find things new and exciting to show that you do care.
