You misquoted me and continue to do so, even when I have stated, clearly, that that isn't what I said or meant. What you think this contributes to the conversation is beyond me, but I'm done discussing it with you.

I do not believe that I ever quoted you at all.. I just followed the logic of me being for removing kids from the street and you repeatedly telling me how wrong I am to break up families for financial reasons. Shrug.
But good for you for rising above it and all.

Please let's remember to discuss the topic and not each other. We're all entitled to our opinions and they should be respected. What is logical and a nobrainer to one poster could not be to another who reads the same post and comes to an entirely different conclusion. Good to clear the air, but shouldn't get personal. Good job.

On their own with help from friends and family is different from "on the government teat"

How many should have made it after the 6 trillion dollars wasted on the war on poverty? Utilizing assistance to make it Amercia and being a parasite on the backs of the American taxpayer are two very different things altogether. Of course the left finds it so easy to pay lip service to a problem than to actually pay the bill out of their own pocket.

I'm not so sure that's a fair statement to make, especially that last sentence. Some of us don't like to brag about what we give of our own time, effort, and money to help others out. How do you know, then, that those of us who want universal healthcare are just paying 'lip service'?
Once I spent my Christmas Eve picking up an undocumented Mexican immigrant with a fatal illness from his (squalid) house and driving him to the hospital for a Neulasta shot, and driving him back home. No one reimbursed me gas or mileage, and no one paid me extra to do it. And that was fine with me. Someone else might ask what we're doing providing an 'illegal immigrant' with a Neulasta injection on our tax dollars. How can we, as a 'shining light on a hill', NOT help people who haven't the good grace to be born with all the tools in their toolbox that we have in ours? I've donated my time, money, and prayers to homeless shelters, prison ministries, crisis pregnancy centers, worldwide missions, and other organizations. I'm a Christian, and my Christ says for me to love my neighbor as myself.
Think what you want about the above, but you can't say I don't put my money where my mouth is. I just don't trumpet it from every street corner.

I think that your story was great. Right up until US tax dollars were spent to treat someone who was in the country illegally. That sends a signal of break the law... and get rewarded.
I am glad that you donate your time, effort and money. That is what charity is all about. That is what charity should be about. It should not be tax me and give to someone else. I honestly believe that charitable contributions would go up and people would be more helpful if they were able to choose to help... As it stands; many common blue collar Americans resent the fact that monies that they have worked hard to earn in turn gets doled out to those that are on the government teat. It is bad enough that there are American citizens that do it... it really aggravates me when folks who not only not Americans; but have broken the law to get here and continue to break it by staying here... get the dollars.

He was hardly being rewarded. I'm sure if he'd had his druthers, he'd have rather not been raped and infected with HIV and not needed the Neulasta to begin with.
Go, live in his country for an hour, see what it's like to try and get here legally (impossible), and tell me you wouldn't do the same thing he did. Until you have had dealings with INS/ICE yourself, you kind of lose your right to tell people from Third World countries what they should and shouldn't be doing to make things better for themselves.
You are testing fate when you do that, friend.
And speaking of 'my tax dollars', frankly I don't want mine used to finance a senseless war, 'domestic surveillance', and marble bathrooms for Congress.

To bring it back to the topic of socialized medicine...
So we have to pay for those that will not work here... and accept all those that come here from outside... Great.
Sorry.. not a citizen or at least a legal resident... NO TREATMENT.... or if you get treatment you immediately go home.
