Re: Colorado - Illegal Immigrants no longer eligble for state health care

I don't see the practical benefit here. If hospitals are still going to have to treat them, then what have we saved?

Also, WIC benefits American born children of illegal immigrants, not the immigrants themselves. How would that change with this law?

Not Law, Health and Human Services regulations based upon a misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment.

Regulations are not Law. One is a set of rules, the other, actual legislation. The issue merely needs a clarification by Congress. And there is a push, of late, to do just that.

I would be wholly in favor of this law, if it were the policy of the United States to actively prevent and interdict illegal aliens. And I would be wholly in favor of that, as well.

But, if we are purposely turning a blind eye to these people coming, we bear some responsibility for them while they are here. Turning a blind eye again is just immoral.

Just a note...my friend's father is an emergency room physician in Mexico. They do not treat Americans with no insurance (they get lots of vacationers there)..even on an emergency basis. Cash only.

Emergently, everyone is going to be treated...even if only to the point that life threats are corrected. But...illegal imigrants in Colorado are not going to get their tonsils out...they are not going to get free antibiotics or allergy meds or B/P meds or statins. They are going to have to pay for their insulin. They are not going to get free school physicals or sports physicals. They are going to have to pay for things that are not taken care of in the ER...

I say let the USA do the same thing. America should not treat Mexicans with no insurance.....even on an emergency basis.....cash only.

Mexico might just be on to something. I would rather it be like mexico in the U.S. than like it is here in Canada.

Re: Colorado - Illegal Immigrants no longer eligble for state health care

I am the director of an Dementia unit and we were suckered into accepting a patient who ended up being illegal and ineligible for medicaid. So now we are stuck with this patient, who currently owes the facility over $100,000, absolutely no family involvement because they are afraid of being deported. To me, that $100,000 represents the salaries of at least 4 more full time CNAs, which I feel my residents desparately deserve. This illegal resident is taking away a valuable medicaid bed to a deserving citizen!
