I did my pre-reqs at the local community college and then transferred to a four-year college my junior year. The nursing program did not start until the junior year, so many of us came from community colleges. Also, I would look at the BSN programs in your area and see what the admit guidelines are for college transfer students. For example, once you have 30 hours at a college, usually your HS grades no longer matter.
I am so sorry to hear about your brother. My brother had metastatic testicular cancer at age 18. At that time, I was in my graduate program working on my Pedi NP. I dropped to part-time to spend more time with him and would not trade it for the world. I am happy to say he is now married with his third child on the way

So, on that front, I would take the time and go be with your brother. There are colleges anywhere you go...and many classes can be taken online.
