Okay so ive posted here once before... and again im pulling my hair .. well what hair i do have out of my scalp over this problem...

THE ISSUE:

I recently decided to take up nursing (19yrs old) I have no prior college really just some English and Math and Human Anat. Anyway, im virtually starting give or take 3 classes right ? Well ive recently moved to the central coast of california (for personal reasons aswell as the Cuesta Community College here) The idea was to hammer out the pre-reqs apply for the RN program wait to be accepted... bing bang boom 4 years i get my ADN right.. Well this semester my little bro was diagnosed with cancer so i dropped all my classes so now i must wait for the summer classes to start... Anyway so im starting over...AGAIN... I recently found out there is a Moritorium for the nursing program that will last untill 2011... SO heres the true issue.. DO I WAIT? MOVE BEFORE PRE-reqs are done or after? DO i do LVN then go into the 30 unit option ( i would like an ADN and i know my college doesnt offer an ADN with the 30 unit deal) i am not during nursing for te money, i have plenty to go to school for 15 years.. if i wanted too.. But its more than that too me.. i just want to get working !!! So heres the question: WHAT DO I DO? WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Keep in mind i want to finish before im like 25.....

A word of advice,
Since you are 19 and want to become a RN by 25, go for the BSN program. As a nurse educator, just go ahead and do it now otherwise if you wait, you may have too many barriers in your way.

Well heres the issue with that, i did horrible in highschool... I cannot get accepted to any 4 year schools at the moment =-/

You may have the same problem getting into ADN schools. Many Community Colleges are jammed packed with applicant's because it's cheaper and takes less time to get an ADN. Most C.C. that I know of are more competitive to get into than the BSN programs. It's rare to find any community college that would accept a NSG student with less than a 3.5, and many require the applicant to have a least 4.0!

Work on getting your GPA the highest you can (retake classes), and apply everywhere that your willing to attend. Go with whoever will take you, (accredited ) and that includes LVN/LPN programs.....

I did my pre-reqs at the local community college and then transferred to a four-year college my junior year. The nursing program did not start until the junior year, so many of us came from community colleges. Also, I would look at the BSN programs in your area and see what the admit guidelines are for college transfer students. For example, once you have 30 hours at a college, usually your HS grades no longer matter.

I am so sorry to hear about your brother. My brother had metastatic testicular cancer at age 18. At that time, I was in my graduate program working on my Pedi NP. I dropped to part-time to spend more time with him and would not trade it for the world. I am happy to say he is now married with his third child on the way So, on that front, I would take the time and go be with your brother. There are colleges anywhere you go...and many classes can be taken online.

I would recommend going to a community college and consider online classes. Take one just to try it and see if you like it, becasue they aren't for everyone. BUT if you want to have your cake and eat it too (meaning spending invaluable time with your brother while moving forward in your education simutaneously), this may be the option for you. Go ahead and get those pre reqs out the way, but know where you want to go afterwards. I wouldn't sit around and wait untill 2011 for a certificate/degree I could have gained a year or two prior!!
I totally understand that you want to jump into the field A.S.AP. and thats fantastic!! Keep that passion about nursing!!

Whatever happens, don't loose sight of what your goals are. Your young and you have OPTIONS, so use them girl!!!
