Thanks for all of your and support. I do have one question..When they talk about having to do the 5 day, 14 day, 30 day and so on , does that mean you are filling out a new & complete MDS for each time. When they talk about doing one of these Medicare required assessments I am understanding (at least I think) that this is what you have to do sine in reality there really is no page that just is a 5 day or just Medicare assessment. Any and all help & advice is appreciated..Thanks a head of Time!

Yep, unfortunately that is what it means! Of course you're not doing RAPS as well as that is just for OBRA required assessments.

It is certainly a lesson in repetition.

Unfortunately that is the nature of the monsterIf you do a comprehensive assessment with your 5 day you can use an MPAF form with the remainder of the assessments, that way you aren't doing a full assessment each time, just the info needed to calculate the ADL score, therapy minutes to get the RUGs level

I'm from PA and have been doing MDS' for almost 4 years. I've never heard of a MPAF..what is it? We do full assessments for the 5, 14, 30, 60, 90 and OMRA assessments. As NASCAR nurse said, you don't have to do the RAPs with those, but everything else needs done. It's time consuming but a lot of the time my patients RUG levels change and the care they need becomes less or more, so it makes sense. Good luck!

The MPAF is the short version of the MDS, similar to the Quarterly, used solely as an option for PPS assm'ts. See RAI p2-32.

Use of the Full version for PPS may be a state requirement. However, only the items contained in the MPAF are actually stored in the state database. All other entries in the Full are ignored.

I just wanted to let you know that I work in PA and use the MPAF for all my medicare mds' except for the admission and any significant changes. Good luck...it does make things a little more bearable!

I found when the MPAF came out I had a hard time using it because it seemed like I was "cheating" on the information I was giving, but now I wouldn"t trade it for anything, I hope they don"t do away with it with the 3.0...

I'll have to ask my boss (I'm the LPNAC) if we can look into the MPAF. Since I do all the assessments-Medicare and the routine ones(and she signs off) I'd be thrilled to make it a little less time-consuming! Thanks to all!!

We don't do an MPAF on anyone. Our corporate people think it is better to do the full MDS and avoid any problems. Apparently when the MPAF came out, some facilities were doing it when they shouldn't.
