Starting a Healthcare Informatics Association

I would like to start a Kansas state chapter of a healthcare informatics group. To be affiliated with a national group would be amazing, but mainly what I want is a group to network with and share ideas. I network with others that use the same charting software, but I want to broaden the group. Any ideas on how to get started?

Re: Starting a Healthcare Informatics Association

If its as broad focused as "healthcare informatics", have you thought about joining your local Kansas City HIMSS chapter?

I'm sure it being Kansas City, Cerner's user group has strong representation in your state.

If its Nursing Informatics specific contact ANIA the American Nursing Informatics Association or CARING the the Capital Area Roundtable in Nursing Informatics Group. They both have attempted chapter off shoots of their organizations.

The Midwest Alliance for Nursing Informatics formerly MANI (and now merged into the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Task Force) began its charter with just three Nurses who worked in HIT that wanted to network and share knowledge and lessons learned about the specialty of Nursing Informatics. Many state level NI groups began with just a few who had the vision and developed from there. See attached for the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Chapter Starter Kit.
GOOD LUCK!
