Question Nursing Informatics References

Hi-I am interested in pursuing a career in Nursing Informatics and have 20+ years as a military medic. I have experience in the following (Med/Sug, Emergency Room, ICU, CCU, Labor & Delivery/Nursery, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Family Practice, Immunizations, Ambulatory Surgery & Staff Development). I have a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration and a Masters in Information Systems. I am also an adjunct faculty member for a University where I teach Microsoft Office to Undergraduate students. I recently applied for a Clinical Analyst position and was told that I was not selected due to the fact that I wasn't an RN. I feel that I have just as much if not more experience than some RN's and should be competitive. What is your opinion? Also, is there a good textbook I should get that would give me more knowledge of Nursing Informatics? I appreciate your opinion!

Having worked clinically with military medics before I'm sure you do have "just as much" hands on clinical experience as an RN but........ perhaps the vendor was looking specifically for a candidate that could speak directly to nurses as one of them. Perhaps the vendor was unfamiliar with the similiarities of role responsiblities between a medic and an RN?
Have you tried to market yourself in healthcare or clinical informatics instead of "nursing" informatics as nursing informatics is the combination of nursing science (specifically), information systems and computer science? For NI and healthcare informatics texts check out previous posts on this forum and GOOD LUCK!
