Hi, I would like to ask if anyone has heard of Rifampin being indicated as an anti-pruritic for someone who got cirrhosis? I know Rifampin as an antibacterial/ anti TB drug, which is also toxic to the liver, never heard of it being medicated for itch

Re: Rifampin

me either. Like you said I know it's used for TB treatment but I had to take Rifampin once because I had c-difficile. I had to take Rifampin with Vancomycin. Never heard about the anti-itch thing!!

Re: Rifampin

I've never heard of Rifampin used for pruritus. We give it frequently to patients with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's...virtually all patients with these conditions on our unit are on Rifampin.
