I am a nursing student that will be starting clinicals in PACU dept. next week. I thought I could benefit from all the expertise on here
What entails a postop assessment when you receive patient in the PACU?? I know it begins with ABC's and monitoring V/S every 15 minutes, O2 if had general anesthesia, pulse oximetry, pain assessment. Where to go from there??

Thanks!

Re: Pacu

the detailed assessment, in addition to what you have listed will depend on the patient and what type of procedure they had.

you can expect to monitor dressings and incisions, drainage, cardiac rhythm, urine output. but again, it really depends on the patient/procedure
