I recently saw an ad in one of those nursing magazines advertising IV certification in atlantic city, new jersey at the taj mahal. The course is from 8-5 or something like that for one day then i assume they give u a certificate.

My question is, is it really worth the 200 bucks they charge for the class or is it better to just get trained at a hospital that has a iv/picc team and save the 200 bucks?

I would really like to work on an iv team one day and am wondering the best way to go about being certified.

I think the class is definitly think the class is in your best interest, along with learning from another coworker. The class would give the formal education involved with placing IV's and the coworker can offer skill and trouble shooting advice.
When I started with IV's I learned from a preceptor and learned the how to. I then practiced alot and became the nurse known as "if she can't get it, it can't get got." I then found that others were not learning they would just call me. I wanted a way to teach my coworkers, so I went to a formal course to learn of a way to teach the insertion of IV's. I found the class invaluable to me. Even though I was good at insertions, I didn't have the why's answered. The class offered vein anatomy, insertion technique, comlications, and legal implications. The class also offered a way to network and find other courses that would help you on your way to IV therapy.
