Does any one have a precise discription of an LPN.s functions in the work field. It would be apreciated.

cAN ANYONE TELL ME IF lpn's CAN FLUSH PICC LINES AND ADMINISTER PRE MIXED ANTIBIOTICS THRU THEM? PLEASE HELP SOME SAY THEY CAN WITH COMPENTENCY TRAINNING WHO KNOWS?

You need to hear from someone here who is familiar with your specific state's guidelines and nurse practice act (or go to your state's BON website, even better) because it can vary widely from state to state. Then you need to see if your facility has placed any additional restrictions or policies regarding LPN practice. As insane as it sounds, some facilities will actually place additional restrictions on what an LPN they employ can do at their facility even though the state has already decided what is safe and appropriate for LPN practice.
I would say that in general, most states allow LPN's to flush PICC lines and give pre-mixed antibiotics as I've worked as one in several states but I may be over-generalizing.

Exactly as the previous poster..........Some states allow LPN's the ability to perform all aspects of IV therapy (as long as their trained) and some states wont allow them to touch em..............

Its always best to ask your BON.........
