LPN or RN to b an IV infusion nurse

I am a SPN in an accelerated program in Louisiana. Yes, nurses are extremely needed here since Katrina.

I have 5mo left of school and I am really interested in IV infusion therapy, in all areas.

I was wondering if I would have to be an RN to work in this area.

Sincerely etc...

Re: LPN or RN to b an IV infusion nurse

That depends upon the state in which you will be practicing. There are some IV teams that hire LVNs and LPNs to insert peripheral sites. Most IV team based in hospital setting function as PICC nurses as well and need to be able to provide comprehensive IV services. You would have limitations on what you can do and the medications you will be able to administer by the IV route. If I were you I would get a job as an LVN and continue to pursue my education and work for the RN. You will have many more career options especially in the fiels of IV therapy. The Infusion Nurses Society, does however offer a national certification for LVNs practicing in this area.
