Re: Wages around the country?

I just started a month ago at a nursing home...

$9.25/hour before promissor certification day shift
$10.25/hour after promissor certification day shift
$1.00/hour extra for pm shift and $1.50/hour for noc shift added to the day shift pay... weekends are no different.

after probation your pay increases on each of those wages by $0.25/hour and if you get a lead position that is another $0.50/hour.

I know, very confusing! So, now that I am certified, working the pm shift and becoming a lead CNA on the floor, I am going to be making $11.75, but because I am not off of the probation period, I will not see the $12.00 mark until August.

As for benefits, they suck!! Thank goodness my husband has health insurance!

Re: Wages around the country?

Western Pa seems a little lower, as far as I know so far... seems like most nursing homes pay $7-8 while you are training, after you become "certified" it's around $8.5-9.5, plus shift differential which often seems to be 50 cents to a dollar. Of course, cost of living is supposed to be lower here - but these gas prices!!!!

Re: Wages around the country?

The National department of labor publishes a handbook called The Occupational outlook handbook, which has all the occupations you can think of. Of course, with almost everything now a days, there is an online version at http://www.bls.gov/oco/ remember that these are national averages, if you want to look it up by state, most of the occupations page contains links to most states.

The readiness is all,

I started out at 9.58 per hour now i'm at 10.94 and this summer i'll go up to 11.25.

But at the level one trauma center a CNA which is now called a Medical Tech in the ER begins at 20 dollars an hour.

Re: Wages around the country?

I started 6 years ago at $10(the hospital pays for your training as long as you are there a year), and had a few increases. A couple of years ago, when we were very short staffed and the wages were not competing with the wages of jobs available in a resort town. We ended up with an across the board $3.00 more and hour. I actually got $2.90, still can't figure out why. This year for pay raises, management is discussing researching what wages are around the country and adjusting our wages accordingly. Thanks to all of you that have stated what are the wages around the country. I feel that I will have some idea of what to expect or some ammunition to bring to the table.

Re: Wages around the country?

Here in southern New Jersey, starting rates that I have seen vary from $9 to $14 per hour. I started at just under $10 per hour a few years ago, and I now earn $12 per hour.
