questions

Hi there!

I have wanted to do CNA work for years, and I hope to be taking a class this fall. :-) I've always liked medicine and psychology, etc, and most things don't gross me out, AND I like to work in tense situations, so I think I'd be good for the job. However, I do have one problem. I am deathly afraid of throwing up, and if I see somebody throw up, I usually start panicking that whatever they have I'm going to catch and have to throw up. ><

How often does one have to deal with residents throwing up? How prevalant is the stomach flu in LTC? Should I be scaring myself?

One more question, about the class- It's 3 weeks long, all day, in October. I will then be in the middle of one graduate course and an online biology course. How much homework is given in the CNA class, if any? Is it all hands on? I can survive class all day for three weeks because I have the weekends to do schoolwork, but I think it might be a problem if I have CNA hw on top of that.

Thanks,
Grace

Re: questions

As far as class schedule, you have to be really careful in finding out what the requirements outside of the immediate classroom is --- mainly, clinicals.

All classes are different. For ours, we did weekends at LTC to do the clinicals. We also had an instructor who stated up front, and in fact followed-through, on the warning that anyone missing any class was out. We had to have 100% attendance.

Now, your class may not be as severe, but you need to find the requirements up front.
