Pregnant during CNA course?

Can anyone tell me what all is involved in a CNA course and if it would be ok to do while pregnant? Thank you in advance!

Re: Pregnant during CNA course?

During the first day of my CNA class we were told to go around the room and introduce ourselves to each other. This one lady stood up and told us she was I believe 7 weeks pregnant. The teacher, a nurse, asked to speak with here after class. The next day the girl wasn't in class. Later throughout the course, I found out another girl was pregnant, only she was 4 months pregnant and according to here, the teacher (a nurse) told her it was fine. Although during skill review, she couldn't do any lifting. I would probably wait until after you have your child before taking the CNA course. If not, and you're still pregnant after you finish the training, you probably won't get a job as a CNA until after you've given birth. It's just a safety hazard I believe.

They can't refuse to hire you just because you're pregnant, that's discrimination.

Yeah there are some physically demanding things as a CNA, but unless there's a medical reason for you not being able to do things while pregnant (besides real heavy lifting), I don't see why physically it'd be a problem.

If you're asking this for yourself, congratulations!

Re: Pregnant during CNA course?

Thanks for the congratulations... but it won't be my child. I'm already the mother of 3 (ages 6,4, and 2) but this pregnancy will be a surrogate pregnancy. I'm carrying for some friends of mine.

I'm just trying to map out all of my pre-reqs that I have to take before I can apply to the nursing program here, and CNA is one of the pre-reqs. It would fit nicely into my schedule the way I have it mapped out right now, but I would just happen to be in the second trimester of this surro. pregnancy.

So, other than heavy lifting, there's nothing else to worry about? Oh and to clarify I'm not pregnant yet. We are anticipating January or February.

Re: Pregnant during CNA course?

I've worked with tons of pregnant CNAs and Nurses who were able to work with no to very little problems.

In class you really don't do a lot of lifting because your practicing skills on able bodied people who can help a lot more than a real patient. Then with my clinics we did a lot more observation then hands on. If you really have a concern ask your doctor about it.
