Hospitals usually prefer people with experience, but if they don't list it as a requirement there is a chance you'll be hired without it. I would say at a children's hospital, the chances of being hired without experience are even slimmer. However, my CNA teacher told us that it all depends on the job market at the time you apply. If there are tons of applicants they will likely choose one who's worked at a nursing home for 6 mos-1 year, even, but if their choices are limited then you've got a shot.
I think the location/nature of your clinicals do make a difference, but not "officially"...I personally think it's something they consider, though (in one interview, they even asked me which shift I had for clinicals, after they found out I had done them in a dementia unit- night shift tends to be 'trickier'.)
I recently got my first job as a CNA (haven't even started yet!) and it is in a hospital. They mentioned that they had an "urgency to fill the position", so I think that's why I got in. It's all pretty subjective and the individual circumstances make a difference.
Give it a shot, putting in an application can't hurt; the worst that will happen is they aren't interested (this time). It will show that you're ambitious/serious and they may even consider that in the future. That was my reasoning, and I ended up getting the job. Good luck!
