Arrow Calling All CNA's!

Welcome! I am the Moderator of the new CNA - Nursing Assistant Forum. I am also an RN who works in various health care settings. I have experience in Long Term Care, Home Health, and Hospital settings. I have been a Nurse since 1998 starting out as an ADN; I received my BSN in 2001.

I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. I remember not wanting to look at a wound for a new patient because I was "uncomfortable" lifting the covers and envading someones privacy! It is safe to say, "those days are over "!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself. If you have time, grab your cup and tell us about yourself. Feel free to PM me if there are any concerns that are of a personal nature. Oherwise, post your conversations and questions here so we can all learn.

Happy Posting!

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Well, I am not a CNA anymore but worked as one for 18 years before going to nursing school. I have been following the request the CNAs have had for a board of thier own and I'm glad that allnurses made the decision to have one for them!! CNAs are a VERY important part of the whole health care team!! Thanks to you all for all your hard work, it is very much appreciated!!

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Hi my Name is Andy, I have been an allnurses junkie since Jan 06'. I kind of just stumbled on this place when i was looking for info about applying to nursing school. Back then it was a total blur, and thanks to this site everything is alot clearer. I been through a pretty wacky year. I have been working as a CNA for a long time now, and back in December of 05' i decided i wanted to go further and become a Nurse. Like i said i was completely oblivious to the fact of the college process let alone the process of applying to nursing school, but faith and determination got me through it and i will be starting nursing school in the fall.

I loved working as a CNA, alot of times it was grueling backbreaking work, but anything worth doing always is. I have had some great experiences, and got to work with wonderful people. The best part of it thought was getting to be there for the people that i took care of and got to know them and their families. I'm glad that i started out as a CNA, because it gave me some good people skills for starters.

I look foward to hearing other CNA's and everyone's stories

Andy

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Hey! I'm Lana. I got my CNA cert last fall but I haven't worked as one yet. I applied at a hospital today though for a weekend job - wish me luck! I'm also a LPN student. Our program is mostly self-paced so I'm hoping to have it completed next March. My bookwork will be done by October, but I will have to see when the clinicals can be done. So until I graduate, I hope to be gaining valuable experience as a CNA, and gaining some cash as well!
I'm excited to see what comes out of this board!

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Hello all!

I am a brand new CNA, only certified 2 weeks now. I am one semester away from graduating as an LPN (December 15, 2006 WOO HOO!) and will begin working as a CNA this week. I needed to earn some extra $$ to get through this semester, so I decided working as a CNA would not only accomplish that goal, but provide me with valuable experience as well.

I am looking forward to chatting with other CNA's!

Peace all~

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Finally, a CNA forum!!!

I've been a CNA for 6 years, 5 of which have spent working on a med/surg floor and ICU. I am taking prereqs for RN and am done with prereqs for LPN. Waiting to get into a program. I know exactly what area I want to go in when I'm done - NICU. I have wanted to do that since I was 12. Possibly considering going into the Navy after graduation but that depends on my health. Been wanting to get into the Navy since I was 5. I love the military and travelling, so why not get paid for what I love?
