I wish I had been a CNA prior to Nursing School; I know it would have helped tremendously. The jitters I encountered make me blush now. Re: Calling All CNA's!

I'm an ADN student working as a tech, I took the job because I think it will make me a better nurse. I have found that I am not quite so squemish (sp?) as I once was and I have gotten REALLY good at not gagging! Quite proud of myself for the last one! Also, I've been able to see some really neat things where I work and I know I am going to LOVE nursing!!! you get the idea

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Hi, I am a new CNA too. I am also a nursing student looking for his RN degree. I would like to welcome everyone and say hello to you all. I am very talkative, which has came in very handy. As most of us know, sometimes all we are needed for is companion ship. I have made a many friends just from talking. So what if their in theyre 80's and 90's ! I enjoy the wonderful satisfaction of the job and i hate to mention it but, does anybody know where the good money is at? I mean 10 dollars an hour is great but where is the better money? thanks, willie

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Hi, I am graduating from my CNA course in three weeks. We are doing clinicals on the weekends and it really is giving me a great outlook for the future. I really enjoy taking care of people and this is giving me so much satisfation! I am looking into the RN program at the comm college near here(southern Maine). Tomorrow morning I have an informational session for the program (Yay!) I am 27 and the mother of two little boys and am very excited to be starting on the venture. I want to get a degree and to make some money while doing something I enjoy. Old people are funny, (and they smell funny, lol) but they are very endearing, wonderful, and deserve my care. ~littlegnomess

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Just stopped by to say hi. I am Robyn,I am in my 25 th year as a CNA! I have cross trained as Phlebotomist,Ekg tech, but my true love is patient care.I have worked agencies, nursing homes, hospital, rehab units,DMR. 9 years ago I found my niche in the world Hospice Home care. I love the work I do.It can be sad,and frustrating, but if I can make someones last days more comfortable, then I am doing my job.And I feel good.

Re: Calling All CNA's!

Hello, Robyn,
First let me say to you as a hospice caregiver. You are a Wonderful & Caring person to be in this field. I want to share with you my one and only experience with hospice. My mother was in home hospice for only one week. But that week was probably the worst week of her life! I cringe to think how she would have been treated if she would have been in a hospice facility. The only nurse that helped me was a personal friend that was in charge of her care (she is an RN).The Cna that was supposed to assist my mom was rude and very demanding ! She made my mom get out of bed even though the doctor had my mom on complete bed rest.My mom told her no several times the CNA still made her get up!! I finally had enough and I told her to leave. She reported me to my friend as being a B! My mom passed away that night! I was responsibly for my mom and I felt like crap when my mom asked me why she was so mean to her!! Needless to say she was fired when I told my friend how she treated my mom. I know not all hospice workers are this way,I just wanted to share my store with you.
