I had my state exam in Dec.The skills I peformed was easy.I did feeding an afternoon snacks, positioning a patient on bed and emptying a urinary bag.I already received my license.
I passed too! Took my state test 2/15 and found out this morning! My skills were: hand washing, dressing a resident, transfer from bed to wheel chair using a gait belt, hair care and position resident on left side.
I have a job lined up and start the 25th. They are sending me to a 40 hour PCA class and after that I orient on the floor for a month (part time). Can't wait!
I figured I'd join and give a shout out that I passed too and already received my license in the mail! I also got a job in the ICU of a hospital. I'm so psyched!! One step further to the Nursing Program.

Congrats! Good going on landing the hospital job. If I may ask, how did you go about getting a job in the hospital?

Thank you! Well, I don't have any experience in the field at all, so I knew I had to do all I could to add credentials to my resume. I first went to get my BLS from the American Heart Association, so I could add that as a certification (you need that anyway to work anywhere in healthcare). I also, had a great relationship with my CNA Instructor and I passed the class with a 4.0 and got a perfect score on my clinical part of the state exam, so I asked her for a letter of recommendation and she actually wrote an incredible one for me (She mentioned my scores and attitude and I think that helped). But what I think helped most is the fact that when you go online and fill out these applications, you have to put that you will work any shift, anyday and holidays. My manager told me that when HR screens the applications those that are marked that way are the only ones that get forwarded to department management. I'm not throwing my score out there and everything to be all self righteous...I just wanted to let you know how I knew I had to go about it, because I lack in experience. I am a Realtor making a career change.
I hope this helps! Good luck!
Oh, and I must have applied to at the least 50 different positions in 6 different hospitals in every department that was hiring. I pretty much threw everything I could against the wall and whatever stuck...stuck. Just to get my foot in the door. I actually got another call yesterday from Ortho dept. wanting to interview me, and I had to tell them that I already took the ICU job. It has to be the work any shift thing...I'm telling ya'!
That's great advice. I completed my first application yesterday, and I did a lot of the things that you did: applying for all shifts, listing my experience with med term. BLS cert. Anything helps. Well, good luck to you and congrats again on landing that job!
Hey all! I just wanted to post and report that I took and passed the CNA exam this past Monday. I really appreciate the encouragement that I received from all of the people here.
