Franemtnurse: Poet Laurette of allnurses

Introducing Franemtnurse: Poet Laurette of allnurses

AKA poopsiebublnose

Bio/Nursing background:
Fran worked fifteen years as school bus driver saving lives one time in a front end bus crash (bus was struck head on by drunk driver). An EMT since 1981, she was one of the first EMT’s in her community to receive trauma certification. Fran graduated from an LPN program in 1997 and is listed in "Who's Who Among Professionals”.

Read more about her life and how Fran became a nurse: How Did You Pay Your Way Through Nursing College/university

A proud mother of two daughters, Fran is crazy about her 4 grandchildren. She wanted everyone to know that she calls the two youngest grandchildren, "Munchkins" and the two oldest, "Bling bling". All of her accomplishments and life events are carefully documented in her scrapbooks. Her walls are adorned with pictures of her loving family. This year, she has finished writing her autobiography.

Now disabled due to chronic health issues, Fran resides in a personal care home with her computer and nursing books at her side. I was privileged to meet Fran this week, interview her in person and reminiscence down memory lane along with viewing her scrapbooks. Her humor and laughter rang out often during our time together. Two days after our meeting, Fran was hospitalized with pneumonia—updated info is in the break room regarding her status.

Most memorable nursing event: Observing the birth of triplets along with seeing three other infants born all on the same clinical day!
favorite clinical rotation as a student

Answer the question. Nursing is…. helping people to achieve their potential. I truly believe in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and feel that I’ve achieved self-actualization.

What an inspiration to the rest of us! In one of the links I clicked on, it said that Fran didn't get her LPN degree until she was 55. I think that's where I'll refer anyone who asks if they're too old to become a nurse.

Karen, you did a wonderful job of interviewing and portraying Fran. I hope that "seeing her name up in lights" revives her and shows her what a powerful impact she has had on others.

To Fran:
As one who also started as an EMT, I've always had a soft spot for your posts. I hope our thoughts and prayers are giving you infusions of strength and tranquility. And I hope you're back and posting soon.

Please thank your daughter for telling us what has been happening to you. And thank you, as well, for letting her and Karen and various others who have spoken with you on the phone keep us informed.

You are such a gem--resilient, brilliant, and valuable. Hurry up and get well so you can give us all a new Franfusion of your insight and humor.

We miss you.

Way to go Fran! I have spoken to Fran a couple times, she is so sweet, funny, and loves God - definitely a heart lifter

Thanks for giving us some more background on one of the board favorites!

Fran, what a pleasure to know you. I've enjoyed our conversations on the boards and on the phone. You are a dear and an inspiration to allnurses everywhere.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read your book and have insight into your life. You are a very wise Christian individual.

I can think of no other to have this honor - in the spotlight. You so richly deserve the accolades.

God Bless you, our friend and colleague.
