Re: What have you been reading lately?

Right now I'm reading Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides, and I cannot put it down. It's heartbreaking, awe-inspiring, and a story that needs to be heard.

It's about the Army Rangers who rescued the US & Filipino survivors of the Bataan Death March. My stepdad was part of that mission, and that is part of why he is against torture of any kind. He saw for himself what these people been through.

Anyway, this book makes me even more in awe of these great men, and grateful for what they did.

Just finished both of Malcolm Gladwell's books, "The Tipping Point" and "Blink".....fascinating reads... I'm now devouring "The Lying Tongue" by Andrew Wilson. It's the story of a young British writer who moves to Venice to work on his first novel, only to learn the dark past of the old man he lives with. I'm getting the creeps already.

Well, I'm on a reading roll apparently.... I finished Stephen Colbert's "I am America (and so can you)" on the train yesterday. I kept laughing out loud, and drawing stares from commuters.... It's a bitingly satirical book about everything from politics to science to religion.... a page turner.

Re: What have you been reading lately?

I've been re-reading 'On Mexican Time' by Tony Cohen as I prepare for yet another trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I LOVE that small city in the Mexican highlands and return again and again to renew and refresh. Check out Cohen's book. It was written about 15 years ago - before so many of us 'gringos' discovered San Miguel, however, I find the essence he described remains even today.

I like to read about wherever my next travel is going to be. Europe and Africa (not certain which country) are on the list for net year. got any good suggestions for 'reads'? THanks!

Re: What have you been reading lately?

Am currently reading "The Greatest Generation Speaks" by Tom Brokaw. Read "The Greatest Generation" a while back. I am so fascinated by WWII, as my stepfather was an Army Dogface & grandpa was a Ranger. Both in the South Pacific, and both w/ incredible stories.

The stories in this book are amazing. I've laughed, cried, and been so proud of my country & its people. I've also checked out 'Flags of our Fathers.'

Re: What have you been reading lately?

I just finished Tess Gerritsen "the Bone Garden". Great book, fab story. If you like Tess and her Maura Isles pathologist series, then this is a wee bit different. Maura doesn't feature much at all, but what a good story. I read it in a few days, it really is one of those cant put down books!

I love Tess Gerritsen though, only one book of hers was a dissapointment...I think it was called In her shoes. Other than that, great storyteller!

I bought that book for my son . . . .he does the same thing, reads and laughs. He loves Stephen's show.

I've been able to steal it occasionally and I've read the first 4 chapters.
