"Dry" by Augusten Burroughs- autobiographical account of his struggle with alcoholism- but at the same time very funny- he's an amazing writer. He's written a few others too- "Running With Scissors", about his childhood with his crazy mother who gave him up to her psychiatrist when he was twelve. His books are almost shocking- he is so honest, but has this dry, sarcastic humor..I can read his books in one sitting. I'm moving on to "Magical Thinking" next.

Other than the med/surg text and the Kaplan review book, I borrowed "Artemis Fowl" (Eoin Colfer) from a friend. Hard to find time to read for pleasure, but the bit that I have digested is pretty good. It's sort-of a sci-fi/fantasy novel about this 12-yr old genius kid who also happens to be a criminal mastermind and a millionaire. I'm about a third of the way into it and he just kidnapped a fairy...

Ugh...my bedstand, and the floor where I toss my books sometimes as I'm falling asleep is a mess.

Right now I have "Biceps of Death" a campy murder mystery that takes place around a gym. "The Power of Intention" and "Start Where You Are: A Guide to Compassionate Living" is also there. Entertainment weekly and Nurses2004 are on the floor, with the books on the bedstand.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Augusten Burroughs, especially Running With Scissors. I've got to get his new one before school starts.

I envy those of you who can read "normal" books. When I even pick up a book, or magazine, of interest to me, I get this nauseating feeling of guilt and panic. If the Lord wills and I finish nursing school and pass the NCLEX, the first thing that I am going to do is lock myself in my bedroom and read a "real" book!

Dies the Fire, SM Stirling -- the other side of his Island in the Sea of Time series.

Gerry, sometimes reading a good book really does cut the stress level -- so don't feel guilty if you indulge occasionally!
