Hello all! I am in the process of applying to Frontier and need to take statistics (yuck!). I know the course at U.Utah is approved and there is one there at Frontier. Has anyone taken either of these courses? The one at U.Utah is approximately half the price as the one at Frontier. Honestly, I want the one that is going to take me the least amt of time and is the easier one - doesn't everyone? I am not afraid of the course (okay a little) I just want to get it out of the way and don't know the best route to take. I have tried to get two classes close to home approved and they have been a no go. Please help me make this decision. TIA!

I can't help with deciding which class, but maybe this will help with the fear.

I'm really not good at math and don't like it at all.

Statistics was the only math class I ever took that actually made sense!! Seriously.

I never liked algebra. Why go to all that work for something that comes out like xyz squared? (Math buffs don't try to convince me, please; dh hasn't managed to in the 30 years I've known him, you won't either).

In statistics, though, you work the same formulas the same way every time and it means something. N=50, that's 50 people who had that outcome in the study, now that means something!

I'd try, if possible, to check out the professors teaching the different courses and take the one with the best recommendations from actual students and decide that way. You want the one who has the reputation for being able to explain things so that you can understand them so that you'll have the best chance to make a good grade in the class.

Thank you! I don't like math either. I really don't know anything about the class at Frontier, but the one at U.Utah looks interesting as it has different approaches to the same problem: there is regular homework, required games, projects etc. Ugh! I just want this to be over so I can get into the nitty gritty of midwifery!

I am taking the U.Utah one now. I have been pleasantly surprised. It is written very well and easy to understand. It is a self paced program and that has been my only hang up, I keep procrastinating. I will be taking my midterm this week so I will let you know how it goes. They do have practice test and so I think it should be fine (open book too). I think it is a good program and have emailed the professor a few times and always had a quick response back. Good luck with your choice.
What Bound class are you applying for? I will be applying to Frontier soon (I hope). Just trying to decide what the best time for me and my family would be.

Thanks Heritage! I think I will be registering for this class tomorrow. I am hoping to apply to the first class in which I can get all my stuff together for. I have degree in Biology and an adn in nursing so I have to complete the portfolio and that is holding me up a bit as well as this darn statistics. Good to know that you don't seem to be having any trouble with the class. I do know that the deadline for August is like July 7th and for September it is like July 27th. I would like to think I would be done by then. I know you said you procrastinate, but when did you start the stats class? Just trying to get a feel for the time frame. Good luck on the midterm!

This doesn't really apply to your original post, but I just wanted to echo what santhony44 said - don't get too worked up about the difficulty of the class. I've always hated math, and I aced my upper-level stats class in college without even a problem. It did require some study time to learn the concepts, but I felt that it was much easier to understand than "regular" math.

I took my midterm and I think it was very fair. I have not received my grade back but expect to have a good grade.

I am embarrassed to say I started the class in August. There has been a lot going on and I didn't plan as I should have. I am now hoping to finish by the end of June. I will have to do several sections a week to accomplish this but I really must do it. If you planned on doing two sections a week it would take you about 4 months, including midterm and final. Congrats on the midterm. I am having Java issues so I haven't registered yet. I hope to complete it in 3 months - it may be unrealistic, but I am going to try. How much homework is there? How about the games? I am hoping to have my computer straightened out this weekend and will jump in with both feet this coming week. Thanks for the info and good luck on the rest of the course.
