Hello - Was just accepted to NYU's Accelerated Nursing Program and want to attend CNM program as well -- but just saw this posted on the webiste:

Announcement: New York University College of Nursing will no longer be accepting applications for admission into its Master's degree and Advanced Certificate programs in Midwifery as it will be suspending its Midwifery Program for new students beginning in the fall of 2008. The Midwifery Program will continue for current students until the last cohort of currently enrolled students has graduated.

I am freaking out -- does anybody attend NYU Midwifery program that can explain? I am starting in Fall 2008 does that mean I am blocked out.

I kind of want to cry!

Sounds like you will be blocked out. This also happened with University of MD's program. You should probably email the director of the programt to find out why they have suspended their program.

It's probably because of lack of interest. I don't think NYU is particurly known for their midwifery program.

I wouldn't panic. If you plan to stay in NYC, you still have two to three more options. Columbia University, SUNY Downstate and Frontier (well known long distance program)

I think Zahryia is right about the lack of interest. I applied for the program a few years back but I quit because there was only one other person in my peer group and I felt really lost in the program without much support.

I know it's not much fun to go through the whole process of application just to get shut off, but if it's any consolation the program is kind of weak for the reason I've mentioned.

I recommend SUNY downstate if you are going to stay in the area. From my observation, Columbia isn't exactly a hub of midwifery energy either. I am basing my opinion my previous research and talking with midwifery students at the school, so take it for what it is.

I'm so sorry - hope you get in another place.
