Need info about nurse-midwives

hey!
i am seriously considering becoming a nurse-midwife. i would love it if i could speak with someone already in that occupation and get their take on the job. Anyone out there that can help me?
Family is very important to me, and i need to know if it is a bad career choice for someone who wants to have a family... I also would like to know what the average pay is... anything else you can think of would be great!
