Well, I'm not a midwife but am considering it. I've been working as an RN in OB for 10 years now and still don't know if I have the confidence in myself to take that next step! It is just plain scary to think of taking on that kind of responsibility! I guess I would gradually feel more confident during midwifery school. I suppose this is no different than I felt when starting nursing school and being sooo nervous about the prospect of being the nurse with all the responsibility (instead of the aide).
