how to become a midwife?

Hi! I was just browsing through forums and came across the CNM forum. I am currently an LVN but was curious to see how one becomes a midwife? Do you go back to school for your Masters in midwifery? I really don't know anything about how to go about becoming a midwife, so anything will help. Sorry to sound ignorant. Hope to hear from someone soon.

Btw, what prereqs do you need? Do you apply for a midwife program? Is there a wait list?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, for CNM you get a Master's. Go to acnm.org and click on Career Center then Midwifery Education Programs to find a college that has midwifery so you can find out about the waitlist and whatnot.

This little blurb is a good overview:

Each midwifery program has different pre-reqs, unfortunately, so the websites for individual programs will be your best bet for understanding what you need to do next.
