Hello! I just googled CNM malpractice insurance, and found a couple of news articles that said CNMs pay up to $20,000 http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...39/ai_n6101578

I also found an article where a CNM said she paid 10% of what her OB/GYN husband pays. That seems a little more reasonable if what one article states as $56,000 for malpractice insurance for OBs is correct, making CNM insurance more like $5,600.

Does anyone who is a CNM mind sharing how much it really costs? I'm in Indiana, and I realize that location may also effect cost.

OK, I'm not exactly sure of the cost, but a CNM that I work with (also in Indiana) pays I think more than the $20-25,000. She says it goes up each year you practice, because you've done more deliveries, so there are more potential lawsuits. Seems to me like the more experienced a Midwife is, the more the insurance would go down! I know she is in practice with another midwife and two OB/GYNs and her insurance is paid for out of the practice.
Her first year wasn't too much but she does a lot of deliveries and has now been doing it 5 years so it is well into 5 figures now. Oh, and she has never had a case brought against her.

If I get the chance to ask her more specifics, I will let you know.
