Okay, I know the whole feeding tube issue has been debated to no end, but this is actually not about the tube issue.

I was watching the news today, talking about the police presence at Terri's hospice and that a nearby school has closed for the week due to the presence of all the crowds and media.

I got to thinking about all the poor people that work in this facility, from the Nurses and nursing staff to even the dietary/housekeeping/maintenance people. This ordeal has got to be terrible for them as well! I cannot imagine the stress these folks go through just to go to work!

If anyone from that facility happens to read this board, I just wanted to let them know I have said a prayer for you all as well.

I was thinking about that, too. And how awful for the other patients and their families...to have to deal with all of the protesting every day. The whole situation is just too bad

I am really amazed at the thoughtlessness of folks today. A hospice is a place to die in peace. I think about the other patients and how unpeaceful and disrespectful it must seem to other families with loved ones there. I believe in freedom of speech, but I believe in using it responsibly. Standing out side of a hospice, chanting, screaming, taunting, and singing is not using the freedom of speech responsibly. It is using freedom of speech selfishly. These folks could move a couple of miles down the road. It sounds like a Football Rally with people yelling! How does it help anyone there to have that carnival outside the door of hospice patients? It makes me mad and ashamed of the people participating. I think their behavior is disgusting and disrespectful. Well, there I go again!

How often do we keep quiet the ordeal of not putting someone with ALS on a ventilator and helping them finish their time as we know it. And how often do ICU nurses end extended care. It is so often that many of us have stress related problems. Death is part of nursing, life dosen't last forever......everone dies eventually.
I have no insight on what happened with terri. I am sure that if the caretakers are not protesting then things are very different from within. She seems as though she was manipulated in a battle between differing personalities. Both sides loved her in a different way. It is too bad that others had to suffer so they could battle.

Exactly what I felt! I support their right to protest, but more importantly, this is a hospice. Families of other residents and staff should be able to carry on with respect for their facility.

I saw on TV a protestor telling a police officer "Jesus hates you." What a nasty thing to say to a man just doing his job.

It is things like this that make the more reasonable Christians want to break the 6th commandment over the protestors' head.

What about the new commandment Jesus gave to his diciples (in John's gospel) which is to love one another?

It sounded like they enjoy hate, the worst kind - in the name of some religion (Christianity in this case) and in the name of life.

It would be ironic if the police officer being yelled at is a Christian also.

You know, I hope they don't ended up causing some of the patient in the hospice died earlier than anticipated because of all the noise. If that ever happens, I hope some lawyer will sue each and every one of them for "murder".

I mentioned in the other thread a friend's mother was admitted there this past weekend. He says it's been a nightmare getting in to see her. She has cancer and is dying. He's easy going and doesn't complain much, but it's so much unnecessary stress. People should be respectful.

all of these hatemongers who are creating such a ruckus to save terri are creating such discord for the other dying patients. totally blows my mind.
