seizure packs

Our Pharmacy recently changed our seizure pack kit from Dilantin Suppositories, to Valproic Acid Supps. Any feedback on its effectiveness? My pt has breast ca with brain and bone mets. Caregiver states pt has intermittent focal seizures. I have noticed that anyone at risk for seizures has a seizure pack in the home, but I'm unclear on guidelines of when to start it. Anyone else?

Re: seizure packs

I was always told you give the ant-seizure meds when seizures don't give up after 5 minutes.

Re: seizure packs

I hope that the packs also contain valium suppositories or something similar to stop seizure activity. We generally use dilantin for preventing further seizure activity. If we have a patient that has a history of seizures or seizures may be expected we'll usually place valium suppositories in the home. We don't have seizure kits.

Re: seizure packs

We used to use valium supp for prolonged seizures, but these days we use midazolam (buccal). Very effective.
