Hi everyone, I hope all is well with you. I continue to enjoy this Hospice forum, I hope it picks up a little more.
I'm asking you to share with me your thoughts about compensation. I've read many of the threads and I have an understanding about where some of you are compensation-wise. I've always worked on an
hourly basis, both part-time and full-time. I'm now thinking about switching over to per diem/per visit and would like to get some input as to those that may have done both, pros and cons. I hope some of the Administrators will give me some input from their point of view.
Also, benefits versus non-benefits; How much is this worth per hour/per visit?
How do you feel about compensation in general for Hospice nurses?
Is is fair market-wise?

I'm an LPN and I've been doing Hospice for six months and the most I make is $20/hr here in Miami. I work for a registry because they pay more than the agency and the companies that only do Hospice. As you know the less you have to do the less you will make. I don't know where you live, but here RNs don't make a whole lot more in Hospice.

I can tell you that I am salaried RN Case Manager and I wish I was hourly or per diem. I put in no less than 50 and most of the time 60 hrs a week. My "hourly" wage divided by the hours I actually work is quite low. I am seriously considering a job hunt.

I"m salary, and I sure do miss hourly, like KJB, I put in way over 40 hours, and i get no overtime. I am TAKING it in comptime though. My boss isn't happy, but if she can slide in around 9 and rarely works a friday, i'm working 40 hours ONLY. ((granted, I won't let a patient go unattended--but if its the difference between doing paperwork at home or the office, i'll do it at home so the secretary doesn't decide to take a long lunch)).....

If you go to per diem, you are better off HOURLY than per VISIT, and make sure they don't try to screw you out of overtime....

Am switching over from salary HH to per diem hospice/HH. Case management is time consuming and has been sucking the life out of me. Per diem where I work doesn't do case management. Just visits and admissions. I'm hoping it will be more rewarding for less time put in and give me time to explore other FT options.

I'm with you, it DOES suck the life out of you.

I got a call at 4:59 p from the secretary "reminding" me that I am salaried....and she threw in "we are all doing more than our share", this from a secretary that takes 1 day a week off, and slides in late and leaves early. Me and the other nurse are supposed to see our patients, then rush back to the office so she can leave early? not just NO, but ----NO.
